The waters are rising. West Michigan has been experiencing a very wet Spring. This would not be anything new, except that a couple of watersheds in our area have experienced unprecedented elevation in the water table. Pine Island Lake, Bankson Lake, and Crooked Lake are at record levels. And many people have found their homes in jeopardy. Some people have had to walk away from homes that are no longer livable.
I have been praying the rainbow over this area. ‘God, please don’t destroy with floods’. As always I leave God room to be in charge, but I have certainly let Him know my preference in this situation.
But a significant bright spot in all of the rising water has been the way that ReCAST Church has come alongside a family that asked for help. The church has filled sandbags, built barriers, and helped engineer and design solutions to keep a family from losing their home. The results are yet to be seen as the forecast has a chance of rain each week. But my forecast is ongoing love, concern, help, and community.
I am so grateful and privileged to be at a church that cares for one another! Love is visible. Love is tangible. Love is winsome. The apostle John said, “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” I have seen love in deed. And I am so glad to be in a community that doesn’t just talk love, but wades into the cold water . . . to warm the hearts of those in need!
