I sit here and write this blog in between conversations. So far this morning I have had three conversations with people who attend ReCAST church. (After I wrote the previous sentence I had a great conversation with a young couple who just came through to grab a coffee and stopped to chat).
I am grateful for a a church that has established an attitude of being out in the community. There are people who come through this coffee shop and will sit down with me and talk with me that have never been to church. Some even call me pastor despite never attending a service at ReCAST. I love coffee, but I also love community. I am grateful for the interruptions.
I had two opposite and warring lessons taught to me early on in ministry. I served under a pastor who had figured out how to hide his car behind the dumpster in the church parking lot so people wouldn’t know he was there so he could just study alone without interruption. And around the same time, I was told, the ministry is found in the interruptions!
You can guess which one of those won out for me. I love to study. I love to read. And I love to chat with people. I am glad to be a coffee shop pastor. And there is one more big bonus: Great Coffee!
