Christian Chicken is what we call it around our house. And it tastes better than all other chicken sandwiches. Maybe it is the prayer, maybe it is some secret process, maybe it is the nostalgia of my few years living in the south where it was readily available.
But now a Chick-Fil-A has opened in the Kalamazoo area. As for southwest Michigan, we welcome a little piece of the Bible Belt. My family will no longer need to wait for vacations southward to imbibe in those golden waffle fries, perfectly crispy chicken sandwiches, and unreasonably friendly service!
I love to support Chick-Fil-A because:
1. They make great food! To be honest, a Christian based business should do a really good job at what they do. If they made bad Chicken they should not stay around. But Chick-Fil-A makes a good product and that is a great example of Christians doing their best because they are not merely working for customers but for God.
2. They have great service. Smiling happy people greet you. The business model is one of friendly service where the customer is first. That is pretty rare in a fast food establishment these days. Often at other chains, I feel like I am inconveniencing the employees behind the counter. That is not always the case but too often the case.
3. They are closed on Sunday! I love the reality that nobody who works at Chick-Fil-A needs to work to try to get Sundays off because they desire to go to church and be with their faith community. It is a protected option for every employee of Chick-Fil-A to be involved in their local church. Further, it takes an amazing level of faith on the part of a restaurant franchise to be closed on a potential cash cow. (See what I did there!). The founder, Truitt Cathy, exhibited and modeled a strong faith in the realm of business. Could Chick-Fil-A make more money by being open on Sundays? Sure. Did they run the risk of failure because they cut out 1/7 of their potential earning (possibly even more because it is a weekend day)? Sure. But by faith they keep it closed on Sundays and are doing just fine!
I have several friends who were in the first 100 waiting at the opening last night. They had pretty uncomfortable sleeping arrangements for the night but a year’s supply of Christian chicken sounds pretty good. I am excited about Chick-Fil-A breaking into the Kalamazoo area and I am hoping to get my family in there for a little waffle fry action this evening! I love good businesses that are working to glorify Christ by the WAY they run their business. All followers of Christ should take on this model of doing our best for Christ in all things!
