This Sunday afternoon ReCAST church will be holding a baptism service at the beachfront of Miracle Camp in Lawton. I love baptism services! Since we started three years ago we have had the privilege of seeing about two dozen baptisms and hear the testimony of those whose lives have been transformed by faith in Jesus Christ.
This week has been packed full of meetings with people considering baptism and even a few people are very new in the faith in Jesus Christ. I confess that there is always a temptation as a Pastor to coach people in the terminology for their testimony. “Maybe you shouldn’t say that ‘Hell No!’ in the middle of your testimony.” “Maybe the phrase ‘loose women’ isn’t the best way to state what you are getting at.” But there is something so amazingly refreshing to see those who are new in faith, groping, grasping, reaching out for a vocabulary to express the wonders of a transformed life.
This week we have a privilege to observe some in our midst, who have died . . . and they want everyone to know it! They want us all to celebrate the funeral of their old way of life, and they want to be raised up out of the water as an expression of resurrection to life.
I am pumped, as I look forward to this celebration of death to sin and new life unto God! Baptism is so much more than just a ritual . . . it is a public line in the sand, it is a demonstration of faith, it is a beautiful funeral . . . that ends in resurrection.
