How can we already be into November!? 2018 has flown by. And many are ready for Christmas decorations. I have already heard Christmas music playing . . .
But not so fast. I am not sure if it was intentional, but I think the timing of Thanksgiving is at least a little ironic. We wrap up the quest for candy, and get ready to embark on the quest for the perfect gifts, and nestled right in the middle is a day set aside for the giving of thanks!
Thanksgiving has progressively become my favorite holiday in adulthood. It is difficult to commercialize thankfulness. I appreciate an intentional reminder of gratitude in my annual schedule. We have developed some family traditions around Thanksgiving that involve extended family, and that has been a great part of my appreciation for the day. But fundamentally, I love the opportunity to reflect deeply on the ways that God has blessed me in the past year and offer my thanks to Him.
Before we know it, November will be past. So let me encourage you to slow down with me, and reflect with gratitude on the blessings of God in this past year. Avoid the rush to December 25th while November is still here. You’ll have plenty of time to fight the crowds for that perfect gift on Black Friday.
