Throwback Blog from 2016!
This blog is not written to make you feel guilty. It is more of a confession that I will let you all in on with the hopes that it moves us all along further down the road to gratitude.
So let me state at the outset, that I can be a class A complainer. Within the same day it can be too hot and too cold. Just moments apart my kids can be too loud or they just don’t talk enough. I bump my shin getting into my car and have a hissy fit. It isn’t pretty when I step on a lego with bare feet on my way to bed in my nice, warm, and cozy home . . .
But as I was reflecting this morning, the very things I find to complain about, are laced with deep privilege and grace from God. I am not talking about trying to find the silver lining in a bad situation. I am talking about the very thing I often complain about is actually a blessing.
My shower in my new home fluctuates from hot to cold. Thank you God that I have a shower, hot water, and they are both IN my home!
I hit my shin with the car door. Thank you God that I have a car, it has doors, and I have shins . . . Not to mention hands with which I can open and close doors!
My kids cannot walk past the piano without playing something that reverberates through the whole house, occasionally jarring me out of the VERY important book I am reading. Thank you God for my three wonderful kids, that they are all vastly more musically talented than me, that we have a piano to play, that you created music, and that you are the author of family!
I could go on with many more examples, but I think you probably get the point. For me, it is not really about trying to find the silver lining in the midst of difficulty. It is more of an issue of just opening my eyes to all the blessings ALL AROUND ME. I live a very charmed life. I have been hit by tragedy. I have some wounds and some bruises in here. But I never have lacked for significant blessings from the hands of my Heavenly Father.
And I never will. He has promised his presence with me in Christ . . . Forever. And when things really do get bad . . . He will be there sustaining, blessing, and giving me strength to endure whatever circumstances I face . . . with gratitude.
I hope you get a chance to count your blessings and have a great Thanksgiving!
